Modern efficient on premises laundry (there are no contract laundries in Brighton and some of the big ones over 70 miles away!)

Use of low energy light bulbs

Polite notice in bathrooms asking guests to fill the sink when shaving and glass when brushing teeth

Polite notice asking guests to hang up to dry towels that are otherwise clean

Staff turning off all on standby electrical equipment and unnecessary lights

Setting thermostats for central heating just a couple of degrees lower – our guests are still comfortable we don’t waste energy

Installing modern pump system and heat exchanger on hot water system to deliver hot water to every room as soon as the tap is tuned on

We recycle 80% of our waste with a local non-profit co-op.

Our regular maintenance policies are designed to preserve our 214 year old building in a sustainable way. read more... Many of the original materials including timber window frames and much of the glass are still in place.

We use only recycled wood, or if we must use new, Forest Steward Council approved wood to repair and replace.

We try to use local trades and craftsmen whenever possible.
